Asana

Your Asana board, kept in step.

Asana tasks from the projects you choose arrive as Inbox suggestions. Accept one with Link to Asana, and finishing or moving it in Kernel updates the Asana task in the column you mapped.

Highlights

  • Only the tasks you choose

Pick all or selected projects and whose tasks count: Me, Unassigned, Me or unassigned, or Anyone. Preview the matches, then import the cards you tick.

  • Completion goes back

Completing or reopening a linked task in Kernel updates Asana. Status moves go to the Asana column you mapped for each Kernel status.

  • Kernel stays in charge

Changes made in Asana refresh the source details on the task but never move it through Kernel's states. Titles, descriptions, and dates are not kept in sync.

Column mappings

Map each Kernel status to a column.

For each Asana project, pair a Kernel status with the Asana column it should move to, or leave it at No column change. Only linked tasks with tracking turned on send updates.

  • Backlog, Ready, Doing, In review, Blocked, Done, and Dropped
  • Dropped moves to its column and never completes the Asana task
  • Unlink stops updates and keeps both tasks

Create from Kernel

Start the Asana task from Kernel.

When a client tracks work in Asana, link a Kernel task to an existing Asana task or create a new one from the task panel. Your Inbox rules suggest the Asana project.

  • Find existing task by search or a pasted Asana URL
  • The assignee defaults to you, with Unassigned as the option
  • Links are one-to-one: an Asana task links to one Kernel task

Good to know

  • Kernel checks for new and changed Asana tasks every five minutes, and you can check now.
  • Accepting a suggestion doesn't assign the Asana task to you; Assign to me is a separate action.
  • An Asana task completed upstream offers a Kernel completion suggestion for your review.
  • A preview shows up to 200 matching tasks and says when it is only a sample.
  • Asana tags and field values are shown for review only and never reach AI instructions.
  • Each Asana workspace is its own connection, and several accounts can connect.
  • Disconnecting stops intake and updates without deleting tasks or their Asana references.
