Habits

Routines that land on your planner.

Set up a routine once. Each occurrence becomes an ordinary Ready task that Kernel places in your week, and the habit keeps a history of what you finished, skipped, or missed.

Highlights

  • Real tasks, not reminders

Every occurrence is an ordinary Ready task with its own key, so you plan, track, and complete it like any other work.

  • Planned inside its window

Kernel schedules each occurrence within its Scheduling hours and move window, and prefers the ideal local time you set.

  • Edits keep history intact

Changes apply to one occurrence, this and following, or the entire series. Completed and started occurrences keep what they were.

Occurrences

Every occurrence is its own task.

Each one has its own key, blocks, tracked time, and completion. Change a field it inherits and Kernel asks how much of the habit the edit should reach.

  • Choose this occurrence, this and following, or the entire series
  • Keep private notes on one occurrence, visible only to you
  • An overdue occurrence can be skipped right from its card

Recurrence

Fixed dates, or a number per week.

Repeat every few days, on chosen weekdays, monthly, or yearly. Or ask for a count per week or month on allowed days, and Kernel spreads the dates evenly.

  • A move window lets an occurrence run days earlier or later
  • An ideal local time ranks the slots Kernel prefers
  • The live preview lists upcoming dates and their windows

Good to know

  • A habit needs an exact Duration and an organization or project; the project is optional.
  • Only completing its task completes an occurrence; tracked time or a passed block never does.
  • An occurrence still open when its window closes is marked missed and can still be finished or skipped.
  • Finished occurrences leave the task board and stay in the habit's History tab.
  • Pausing or archiving a habit cancels its future occurrences that haven't started.
  • Habits are created on the Habits page; an existing task can't be turned into one.
