Time tracking
Every start is a timebox.
Starting work opens a block on your planner and records time against the task. Run more than one at once, stop with a work note, and add earlier work straight on the calendar.
Highlights
Every start is a timebox
Start takes the task's next flexible block, moves it to now, and keeps its length. A task with nothing planned gets a new one-hour block.
Several sessions at once
Run more than one session for overlapping work or agents working in parallel. Overlap is ordinary: on its own it raises no warning and doesn't block billing.
Notes while they're fresh
Stopping records the time and offers Undo with a Work note field: what changed, what was decided, and what remains.
Entries
Correct an entry without starting over.
Open any entry to change its task, start, or end, round it to the quarter hour, and edit its work note. Changes save as you go, and Start picks the task up again.
- −15m and +15m round the duration and keep the start fixed
- Billable time starts from the task and can change per entry
- Billed or written-off entries are corrected from Billing
Locked blocks
Locked blocks track themselves.
Lock a block when the time is a commitment. Kernel starts a session at its start and turns it into recorded time at its end. A flexible block you never start records nothing.
- A locked block starts its own session when it begins
- Its end turns the session into an ordinary time entry
- Planned time never counts until it becomes an entry
Good to know
- A session stopped in under five minutes saves no time.
- Log work records a duration without a start or end, for work you didn't time.
- Entries are dated in your home timezone; times show in your device's zone, except in Billing and reports.
- Planned blocks and running sessions count in reports only once they become recorded entries.
- Meetings can record their own time after they end, for one occurrence or a whole series.
- Each task's Time section lists its entries and notes, and keeps open drafts apart.
