Codex

Give Codex the first pass.

Link Codex sends a snapshot of the task to Codex on your Mac. Draft opens a prefilled composer; Work starts the first turn, by default in a new worktree. The card follows it.

Highlights

  • Draft sends nothing

Draft opens a Codex composer with the task, its comments, and a Kernel link filled in. You edit and send it, and Kernel links the task it starts.

  • Work in its own worktree

By default, Work starts the first turn in a new Git worktree from the project's default branch, with the model and reasoning from your mapping.

  • Your task, your call

The card shows Running, Done, or Disconnected. Kernel never moves the task for you, so Done in Codex doesn't close anything in Kernel.

Draft

Draft fills the composer and waits for you.

Draft opens a new Codex composer with the task prefilled and creates nothing. Choose Plan, a model, or reasoning in Codex, edit the prompt, and send it when you're ready.

  • The prompt carries the task, its comments, and a Kernel link
  • Kernel links the task when your message keeps that link
  • Unsent drafts never run, and Discard draft removes one

Stop

Stop the first turn, then continue in Codex.

While the companion still owns the first Work turn, the card shows Stop beside Open in Codex. Stop interrupts that turn and hands the same task back to you in Codex.

  • Only the first turn the companion started can be stopped here
  • The task, its folder, and finished work stay as they are
  • Kernel never answers a question or approves anything for you

Good to know

  • Pair a Mac once with krnl connect codex; it registers the Mac and starts a companion at login.
  • New mappings default to GPT-6 Astra at xhigh; choices come from the Mac's own Codex model catalog.
  • Questions, approvals, and later replies happen in Codex; Kernel never supplies an answer.
  • Kernel shows status and a link. It doesn't copy Codex conversations or upload attachment files.
  • Existing task links a Codex task you already started, by title search or codex:// link.
  • Launches aren't queued: a disconnected Mac can't start work, and expired offers never run later.
